Supporting friends after having a baby looks very different for me. I struggle to do all the items on my To-Do list for myself, that I am not always a great friend. That is to be expected when you are in charge of another human being. Whether you are a stay at home mom and or you work and take care of your child, keeping up with our before kids life can be hard.
Family of course is the most important thing in life to me right now, but I still want to be a good friend. However, money and time are two things that new parents do not have a lot to spare. When I first heard about Kristen getting sick, it was very hard for me. I have known Kristen for over 10 years and no one wants to see their colleague and friend get sick after having their second child. I wanted to to help Kristen, but it is always tricky to know what to do to help people when they are sick.
The hardest part to watch was Kristen having to leave her job of teaching and stay at home. Although I’m sure hearing the idea of staying home and not going back to work after having your second kid sounds amazing, remember, this means that Kristen had cancer and lost her income all at once.
When Kristen announced her first business venture kwritingsupport I knew I wanted to support her. It was just around college application time and Kristen had started her writing editing and tutoring business. I shared her page on Facebook, hoping that someone would need her support.
As Kristen progressed through her treatments and then they ended, Kristen knew she wanted to continue to make money to support her family. So Kristen started www.kkravecs.myrandf.com where she is an independent consultant for Rodan + Fields. This company offers simply life changing skin care options. What I have learned from Kristen is that money does matter when buying skin care products. You can hear from Kristen in our podcast how spending money on quality items can make a difference instead of trying over the counter items and wasting your money.
So back to how WE can support Kristen. Maybe you are in a place in your life where you can not afford these items, but that does not mean that your friends and family can not. You can LIKE Kristen’s Facebook pages for Writing Support with Mrs. K. and follow her Insta @everythingkristenk and follow her. You can share what she posts to your friends and make comments. This costs you nothing, but does get the word out there and you are supporting a mother who is trying to do the best for her family. These tiny changes can help Kristen support her family and you can keep her in mind when you hear someone asking for help in writing or skin care.
Most importantly, you can spread the word about colorectal cancer. Don’t be embarrassed about talking to your doctor about symptoms and do not let your busy life get in the way of going to the doctor to get checked out for anything that you struggle with. We all want as much time with our kids as possible, so let’s stay healthy!
Come hear Kristen’s podcast and support Kristen. Us mothers need to stick together and help each other out! Remember it takes a village…..
