How I Finished My Sugar Fast

Well, 40 days came and went for my sugar fast.  A lot went on in the past 40 days. My son started daycare for weeks, my leg got worse and I found out I needed another surgery, I had another surgery, and I was sick for the majority of the 40 days.  However, through all of this, I kept to my sugar fast. If you want to know the beginning of the story, go here. Now, I did not follow it exactly like I wanted to, but I kept the basic principle of no sweets and no sugar substitutes, but my unexpected illness after illness caused me to have some…

How I Prepared for my Sugar Fast

In December I was really starting to struggle with myself.  It had been 4 months since I had broken my leg and I was not making the progress I wanted to at that point to get my body back to pre-pregnancy weight or look.  I wanted to be walking at least an hour a day and then doing 30-45 minutes of cardio a day to lose weight by December. I was able to do 20 minutes of light cardio, but nothing that got my heart rate up that much and I could walk, but 30 minutes was my max.  I was told that I would be able to run in…

How Do I Make a Quick Easy Meal with a Child

Saying it is an easy meal maybe relative.  I find it harder and harder to cook while entertaining a child.  But I am trying to get better and more consistent feeding my family on a regular basis when I can.  So I do have some go to meals that take about 20-25 minutes total to make. They are not always the most healthy meals, but they taste good!     This meal is called the Sausage, Pasta, Tomato Thing.  It can be made in many different ways. But here is how I make it.       I like this meal because I can entertain my child as I make…

How I Got Around in My Wheelchair

Getting around in my wheelchair was better and harder than I thought. I was grateful that I finally had some mobility. Getting around with my walker was tough because my ribs hurt so much and my leg felt so heavy. (To hear the whole story, go to my podcast, episode 4) Being able to wheel around was nice and I could finally hold my child. The hardest part in the wheelchair was always being in the seated position. I don’t normally sit for long periods of time so this was a challenge for me. Nothing made me feel comfortable. No matter what position or how I angled myself, everything was…

    How I Make Baby Food

My original goal was to start my son on solids at 4 months. And our pediatrician also wanted us to start around 4 months. However, when I broke my leg, everything took a little longer to get started. So at 5 months old we started. The first food that I started with was spinach. I wanted greens to be my son’s first experience with food, hoping that this will not make him a picky eater. Only time will tell! As of now, I make all my own baby food and this is how I made the spinach. I filled my pot with water below the steamer and had it boil.…

How I Make My Son’s Bottles

I first started using bottles around when my son was one month old.  I started  using Dr. Browns bottles. These were hard for me to use as there were so many parts to just make a bottle.  There is a straw and a cap for the straw.  When you are tired at night, it is hard to do all these steps to make a bottle. So I moved on to use the Advent glass bottles.   I like using glass bottles even though they are heavier.  I am not worried about dropping them or them breaking as they are very sturdy.  You might be too afraid that they would break and not…

How I Organize My Son’s Closet

Here is what my son’s closet looks like .  As he had such a large closet we wanted to make sure that we used it!  So we decided to put all his clothes in the closet.         One of my favorite finds was the dividers for the clothes.  Before our baby arrived we already had lots of clothes of all different sizes.  I loved having them divided by these markers.       This meant a lot of hangers.  So I bought hangers that had the top part that could swivel back and forth and there would be lots of room for all his clothes.    …
